The Downtown Library is the perfect setting for your performance, celebration, or business meeting. Its central location in the heart of downtown Bloomington makes it an ideal venue for businesses and book lovers alike. The newly-renovated Ellettsville Branch adds new options to the Ellettsville community including an expanded program room to accommodate large meetings of up to 110 people.

The Downtown Library’s tasteful and accessible auditorium offers fixed theater seating for 144, including a stage, stage lights, projector with screen, DVD player, lectern, microphone options, and a piano and electronic keyboard. Most additional meeting rooms, which seat 10–144, feature table and chair seating, projectors with screens, and dry erase boards.

Meeting room space is available free of charge during library hours to all Monroe County organizations and local units of government. Some rooms at the Downtown Library are also available to local businesses for a fee. To reserve space, you must have a library card and be at least 18 years old. Gallery Space, Main LibraryArt Exhibit and Display Space

A corridor art exhibit and display space on the first floor of the Downtown Library is available free of charge to individuals and community nonprofit groups. A similar space is available at the Ellettsville Branch. To reserve either space, you must have a library card and be at least 18 years old. We welcome donations from artists for works sold as a result of being on exhibit here, but the direct sale of works is not permitted on our property. Video Production Studio, Main LibraryProduction Studio Spaces at the Downtown Library

Video and audio production studios are available free of charge to individuals of all ages with a library card at the Downtown Library. They may be reserved for 1.15 or 1.45 hours, as early as 24 hours in advance. Maximum occupancy is 2 people at time. Please read the full production studio space policy.

Our all-ages video production studio includes a green screen, green screen suit, various cameras, professional-grade tripods, microphones, channel mixer, teleprompter, and studio lights.

Two all-ages audio production studios include professional headphones, iMacs with professional software, Focusrite interfaces, condenser mics, a keyboard controller, digital piano, dynamic mics, and various guitars. Video and audio production studios are located on the first floor of the Downtown Library. Reserve a production studio space.


Study Room at the Main LibraryStudy Rooms

Quiet study rooms are available free of charge to individuals of all ages with a library card. They may be reserved for 1, 1.5, or 2 hours, up to 24 hours in advance. Please read the full study room policy.

Study rooms are located in both the Downtown and Ellettsville Branch Library for individual and small group use. Each study room features a table and chairs; dry erase board and markers; and Wi-Fi access. Reserve a study room.

This room is available to anyone looking for a quiet room to read or study.

The Silent Reading Room is located on the second floor of the Downtown Library. The room includes individual study carrels, tables, and chairs.
